Octopus 4 - New Album
Octopus 4
Charles Uzzell Edwards
where ?
Up in the mountainous region North of San Francisco is a place called Chill Valley. There is an artificial Intelligence called the 'Octopus' there, swimming in the deep waters of the imagination . It has been formulating ideas taken from the world of the deep unconscious , treading the thin 3D surface tension between ambient-noise , fat chunky beats and labyrinthine rhythmic overlays , spanning the sonic spectrum of environmental music composition and expressionistic chaotic information retrieval.
what ?
Some of the various themes of this, the fourth in the Octopus triptych are as follows...
Life, Modernisation, Echoes, Work, African Rhythms, Brazilian Dystopia, Tron, 1960’s psychedelia, Bass frequencies, Inner City transportation systems, and our own Houses, set to repetitive distorted beats and haunting ambient environmental sequencing set in a tangy bouillabaisse of deconstructed chaotic information...
why?
A message from the creator of the 'Octopus' Mr Charles Uzzell Edwards.... The main idea of this epic project is to present music that contains so much information in many diverse forms so that it all becomes one cohesive entity with an intelligence of its own . It is hoped that this music will communicate many ideas to the listener through the wonders of the collective unconscious that we all share in common.
Its like having all of the information in the world channeled through your brain in the time it takes to say om. (plus, you can dance to it)
when?
The first 3 Octopus releases were released on German FAX +49-69/450464 record label. Octopus 4 was recorded between 1997 and 1999 just before the turn of the century. I finally got round to mixing it all down. Amazing what a bit of 2020 isolation can do.
huh?
It's a big weird wonderful world , so be yourself.
Here is the soundtrack to your craziest, most satisfying dreams.

I released a series of 3 albums in the 90's on German electronic label FAX under the name OCTOPUS because my 1 computer with 8 midi instruments setup looked like an Octopus. My last studio in California was in Mill Valley and the room was shaped like an octagon and this is where I recorded this album IDIOT SAVANT around 1997.. I have spend the last 3 weeks in isolation putting it together, and it’s out !!!

I have been editing mixes from THE GARDENING CLUB a party we used to run in San Francisco
The Gardening Club - San Francisco is 25 years old. It was dreamed up by Charles Uzzell Edwards and Darkhorse as an electronic hydroponic environment, an epic Monday night chill out club in San Francisco, and it cost $2 to get in.
It was a dark jungle utopia to relax in after a long weekend clubbing , where you could sit in the Doobie Brothers old DC airplane, relax and smoke herbal jazz cigarettes. It was part of the DV8 nightclub, a place made famous for having its entire interior painted by Keith Haring (on speed) . His artwork has since mysteriously disappeared and is probably sitting in a drug barons den somewhere today.
Guest DJ’s were asked to play music they would play to friends while chilling at home on a Sunday morning. Guests included Derrick Carter, Robbie Hardkiss, Eddie Richards, DB, Patrick Pulsinger, Dr Motte, Thomas, Jenö, Markie, Mark Farina, Pete Namlook and many more.
Human Bacon at Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes (Findlay Brown & Charles Uzzell Edwards)
As DJ duo HUMAN BACON, Findlay & Charles had a weekly DJ residency at Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes in Shoreditch in the mid 2000's. This is one of the full sets from one of those nights, playing 100% vinyl taking it in turn to play a track while the other one went to the bar to get the drinks. Complete Mayhem. Complete Chaos. Thanks to Nick Jaguar for putting up with us.
