Between 1877 and 1885, Frédéric Bartholdi with the assistance of Alexandre-Gustavo Eiffel designed and built what is now known as the Statue of Liberty. First assembled in Paris and shown at the World Fair, before being disassembled and shipped to New York in 1886, the statue was a gift from the people of France to commemorate 100 years since the American Revolution.
