One of a new post pandemic series from my new warehouse studio
A spam email from a Chinese “copy village” called Dafen was the inspiration for Pure Evil’s “Nightmare Series.”
The email contained a list of artists and their paintings that could be reproduced, including three Andy Warhol paintings. Warhol’s entire artistic output has been distilled right down to these 64 x 64 pixel thumbnails of Jackie Kennedy, Liz Taylor and an Electric Chair and so these simple iconic images became the inspiration for a set of doomed and dripping celebrity portraits.
People ask why are they crying ? “Its an illustration of the heartbreak and sadness we experience in our lives.”
